Experiments in PT −symmetric quantum mechanics

چکیده
Extended quantum mechanics using non-Hermitian (pseudo-Hermitian) Hamiltonians H = H is briefly reviewed. A few related mathematical experiments concerning supersymmetric regularizations, solvable simulations and large-N expansion techniques are summarized. We suggest that they could initiate a deeper study of non-localized structures (quasi-particles) and/or of their unstable and many-particle generalizations. Using Klein-Gordon example for illustration we show how the PT symmetry of its Feshbach-Villars Hamiltonian H ) might clarify experimental aspects of relativistic quantum mechanics. Quantum Squeezed Light Propagation in an Optical Parity-Time (PT)-Symmetric Structure
We investigate the medium effect of a parity-time (PT)-symmetric bilayer on the quantum optical properties of an incident squeezed light at zero temperature (T=0 K). To do so, we use the canonical quantization approach and describe the amplification and dissipation properties of the constituent layers of the bilayer structure by Lorentz model to analyze the quadrature squeezing of the outgoing ...
متن کاملNumerical Analysis of Stability for Temporal Bright Solitons in a PT-Symmetric NLDC
PT-Symmetry is one of the interesting topics in quantum mechanics and optics. One of the demonstration of PT-Symmetric effects in optics is appeared in the nonlinear directional coupler (NLDC). In the paper we numerically investigate the stability of temporal bright solitons propagate in a PT-Symmetric NLDC by considering gain in bar and loss in cross. By using the analytical solutions of pertu...
متن کاملIs PT -symmetric quantum mechanics just quantum mechanics in a non-orthogonal basis?
One of the postulates of quantum mechanics is that the Hamiltonian is Hermitian, as this guarantees that the eigenvalues are real. Recently there has been an interest in asking if H = H is a necessary condition, and has lead to the development of PT -symmetric quantum mechanics. This note shows that any finite physically acceptable non-Hermitian Hamiltonian is equivalent to doing ordinary quant...
متن کاملFrom PT -symmetric quantum mechanics to conformal field theory
One of the simplest examples of a PT -symmetric quantum system is the scaling Yang-Lee model, a quantum field theory with cubic interaction and purely imaginary coupling. We give a historical review of some facts about this model in d ≤ 2 dimensions, from its original definition in connection with phase transitions in the Ising model and its relevance to polymer physics, to the rôle it has play...
متن کاملPT -symmetric Hamiltonians and their application in quantum information
We discuss the prospect of PT -symmetric Hamiltonians finding applications in quantum information science, and conclude that such evolution is unlikely to provide any benefit over existing techniques. Although it has been known for some time that PT -symmetric quantum theory, when viewed as a unitary theory, is exactly equivalent to standard quantum mechanics, proposals continue to be put forwa...
